Preview Roundups
January 09, 2019
Vanderbilt at Georgia 6:30 PM ET
Vanderbilt heads to Georgia on Wednesday seeking to clean up a few things from a disappointing home loss to Ole Miss in its SEC opener, most notably poor shooting down the stretch and a dismal performance at the free-throw line. The Commodores made just one of their final seven shots, none in the final 3:46, and hit on just 17-of-29 free-throw attempts in an 81-71 loss that took away from freshman Simisola Shittu’s 21 points in his conference debut.
Georgetown at Xavier 6:30 PM ET
Georgetown will attempt to buck recent history and beat a struggling Xavier squad on the road Wednesday in a Big East game. The Hoyas have dropped five straight and eight of the last nine meetings with the Musketeers, who are coming off another terrible offensive showing.
West Virginia at Kansas State 7:00 PM ET
Both West Virginia and Kansas State were expected to contend in the Big 12, but injuries and ineffectiveness have made for a difficult ride thus far. Both teams will be trying for their first conference win when the Mountaineers visit Kansas State on Wednesday.
Houston at Temple 7:00 PM ET
One of three remaining unbeaten teams in Division I, Houston puts its unblemished mark on the line Wednesday when it travels to face Temple. The 15th-ranked Cougars are 15-0, but that doesn't mean coach Kelvin Sampson is happy with every aspect of his team's play so far.
Tulane at South Florida 7:00 PM ET
It's been a while since South Florida had to bounce back from a loss, but that's just where the surprising Bulls stand after a disappointing last-second 78-75 setback to Tulsa on Saturday night ended their seven-game winning streak. Now the Bulls return home to face a Tulane team seeking its first American Athletic Conference win after back-to-back losses to Cincinnati (93-61) and SMU (74-65) to begin league play.
Auburn at Mississippi 7:00 PM ET
Tenth-ranked Auburn hasn't played since Dec. 29, so the build-up to its SEC opener Wednesday at Ole Miss has been a grind. The Tigers, who defeated North Florida 95-49 in their last game, have practiced hard in preparation for a stretch in which they play four of their first six SEC games away from home after losing their only true road contest this season to No. 16 North Carolina State 78-71 on Dec. 19.
Marquette at Creighton 7:00 PM ET
Marquette is perfect on its home court this season, but the results have been far different in both of the team's two true road games. The Golden Eagles have been steamrolled in both their losses away from home, losing by at least 20 points, and will look to reverse that trend when they visit Creighton on Wednesday night in a Big East Conference matchup.
Virginia Tech at Georgia Tech 7:00 PM ET
Even when Virginia Tech struggles with outside shooting, its talent has been enough to build an eight-game winning streak entering Wednesday’s road contest at Georgia Tech. The seventh-ranked Hokies, who are second in the nation in 3-point shooting through Monday, made a season-low six from long range Saturday against Boston College, but nonetheless Virginia Tech rallied for a 77-66 home triumph that gave the program its best start to a season since 1982-83.
Ohio St. at Rutgers 7:00 PM ET
For only the second time this season, No. 17 Ohio State enters a game trying to rebound from a loss. The Buckeyes travel to Rutgers on Wednesday night for a Big Ten matchup with Rutgers after getting stung by No. 5 Michigan State 86-77 at home last Saturday.
Clemson at Syracuse 8:00 PM ET
Basketball is hardly in the spotlight at Clemson these days, but the Tigers can certainly attract some attention with a win at Syracuse on Wednesday. The Clemson football team won the national championship in resounding fashion on Monday against No. 1 Alabama, while the basketball team is coming off a loss to then-No. 1 Duke.
Louisville at Pittsburgh 8:00 PM ET
Louisville vies for its second straight conference win as it visits Pittsburgh on Wednesday evening. The Cardinals opened their ACC schedule with a home victory over Miami on Sunday, while the Panthers were handled at home by No. 12 North Carolina in their conference opener on Saturday.
Florida at Arkansas 8:30 PM ET

Arkansas has been tough at home in conference play, winning 13 of its last 16 such contests, and will attempt to continue that success when it hosts Florida on Wednesday. The Gators have been a thorn in the Razorbacks' side, however, winning their last two games at Arkansas and four of their last five.

Butler at Seton Hall 8:30 PM ET
Seton Hall served notice as a Big East contender by bolting out of the blocks to begin conference play before getting tripped up in their last contest, halting their seven-game winning streak. The Pirates aim to regain their footing on Wednesday when they host Butler at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Iowa at Northwestern 9:00 PM ET

No. 25 Iowa looks to continue its upward trajectory when it visits Northwestern on Wednesday in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes have won six of their last seven games, including an impressive 93-84 triumph against then 23rd-ranked Nebraska on Sunday to earn their second victory over a ranked team this season, and hope to move up the conference standings by knocking off the Wildcats for the first time in Evanston since Jan. 25, 2014.

Texas Christian at Kansas 9:00 PM ET
Ninth-ranked Kansas once again begins life without injured 7-foot center Udoka Azubuike -- this time for the rest of the season -- when it hosts TCU on Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse. Azubuike was averaging 13.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game prior to sitting out Saturday's setback versus Iowa State with a right wrist injury.
Miami-Florida at Florida State 9:00 PM ET
It has been a rough opening to conference play for Miami and No. 13 Florida State and the intrastate rivals head into Wednesday night's battle seeking their first ACC win of the season. The Hurricanes are 0-2 after losses to North Carolina State (87-82) and Louisville (90-73), while the Seminoles return home after being shut down by now top-ranked Virginia in a rare top 10 matchup for Florida State, which had entered the game at No. 9.
Virginia at Boston College 9:00 PM ET
Off to its best start in four years, Virginia puts its newly minted No. 1 ranking on the line when it visits Boston College on Wednesday night in an ACC matchup. The Cavaliers, who ascended to the top of the Coaches Poll following a 65-52 rout of then-No. 9 Florida State over the weekend, are seeking their 11th consecutive league road win.
Arizona State at California 9:00 PM ET

Few teams have been as perplexing as Arizona State, which followed its signature win over Kansas with back-to-back losses to Princeton and Utah. The Sun Devils look to build on last Saturday’s win over Colorado when they begin a two-game road trip Wednesday against California, which has lost three straight and four of its last five.

Arizona at Stanford 11:00 PM ET

Arizona lacks the star power of past teams, but coach Sean Miller’s squad is in a familiar position following the first week of conference play. After opening with back-to-back wins over Colorado and Utah, the Wildcats begin their Bay Area road trip on Wednesday against Stanford, which has lost three of its last four games.

San Jose St. at Nevada 11:00 PM ET
After tying the school record with a 14-0 start, two-time defending regular-season champion Nevada finds itself in the middle of the Mountain West standings after the first week of conference play. The No. 11 Wolf Pack, who were hammered at New Mexico, 85-58, on Saturday following an impressive 72-49 victory over Utah State to open league action, will try to get back on track Wednesday night when they host San Jose State.
