Jordan Eberle scored a power play goal in the first period and Brock Nelson and Scott Mayfield added insurance goals late in the third period Saturday night as the host New York Islanders remained red-hot -- and matched a bit of team history -- with their 3-0 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Goalie Thomas Greiss made 35 saves in his first shutout of the season and the ninth of his career.

The Islanders have won five straight games, all against Metropolitan Division rivals. Their 6-0-0 start in the division is the franchise's best since 1982-83, when New York won its first six games against Patrick Division foes.

Keith Kinkaid made 30 saves for the Devils, who have lost three straight, all in regulation, and are 1-5-1 since opening the season with four consecutive wins.

Eberle scored to cap a power play flurry 7:43 into the first. Josh Bailey's shot was deflected by Kinkaid and the puck bounced to Anders Lee, who took a swipe but could not connect as the puck skittered into the crease and to Eberle.

Devils defenseman Ben Lovejoy stuck his leg out in hopes of deflecting Eberle's shot, but the Islanders center was able to tuck it into the right corner of the net.

The Islanders outshot the Devils 13-8 in the second period, but New Jersey had the best scoring chance shortly after the midway point, when Greiss got a piece of a breakaway shot by Taylor Hall.

The Islanders missed a handful of chances to extend their lead during a flurry with about 11 minutes left in the third. Kinkaid turned away a point-blank shot by Anthony Beauvillier to keep the score at 1-0.

The Islanders finally extended the lead with 4:54 remaining. The scoring opportunity was set up when Bailey created a turnover near center ice.

The puck bounced to Nelson, who shuffled the puck for a handful of seconds as defenseman Sami Vatanen skated backward. But Vatanen could not block the puck as Nelson fired a shot over the stick of Kinkaid.

Mayfield added a length-of-the-ice empty netter with 13.6 seconds left.
