The Philadelphia Flyers scored two goals in the first period, two in the second and held on for a 6-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Sean Couturier scored two goals, Scott Laughton, Claude Giroux, Jordan Weal and Wayne Simmonds each scored one goal and the Flyers won their second straight game, improving to 18-15-8. The Flyers defeated the New York Islanders 6-4 on Thursday night. Giroux added a pair of assists.

Philadelphia goaltender Brian Elliott was solid in his 16th straight start, making 28 saves.

The Blues had won three games in a row, including a 2-1 victory over the Las Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday. They registered a mere seven shots in the first period and had trouble breaking through early against Elliott.

St. Louis fell to 26-16-2 and struggled to generate much movement in the offensive zone, though Ivan Barbashev scored his first goal of the season. Paul Stastny cut the lead in half -- 4-2 -- just 12 seconds into the third. Colton Parayko tipped home a shot with 4:31 remaining to get the Blues within 5-3.

Simmonds cleared space in front of the net and sent home a rebound with 8:42 left for a 5-2 Flyers lead.

Weal's goal gave the Flyers a commanding 3-0 advantage with 11:28 remaining in the second on Jakub Voracek's league-leading 41st assist of the season.

Couturier notched his 20th goal slightly more than three minutes later for a four-goal lead. It's the first time in Couturier's career that he has reached the 20-goal mark. He added an empty-netter for his 21st in the waning seconds.

The Blues got on the board when Barbashev scored with 5:04 left in the second.

The Flyers came out very aggressive from the time the puck dropped and went ahead 1-0 with 17:45 left in the first on an unassisted goal by Laughton.

Philadelphia went ahead 2-0 just under five minutes later when Giroux scored and ended the period ahead in shots on goal, 16-7.

The Flyers improved to 12-3-3 this season when scoring first, and they finished the period with a lead for just the second time in the last 21 games.
