Stampeders 25, Eskimos 9: Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 263 yards and a touchdown in his first game since late June as Calgary defeated visiting Edmonton for its eighth straight win on Labour Day.
Mitchell completed 19-of-28 passes after missing the last seven games because of a pectoral injury, while backup quarterback Nick Arbuckle rushed for a score as the Stampeders (6-4) tied the Eskimos for third place with 12 points in the West Division. Reggie Begelton gained 138 yards on 10 catches with a touchdown and a two-point conversion while Ka'Deem Carey added 143 yards on the ground for Calgary.
Edmonton's Trevor Harris went 27-of-35 through the air for 216 yards, but he was held without a touchdown and suffered an interception for only the fourth time this season as the Eskimos (6-5) dropped to 2-9 in their last 12 road games. Natey Adjei hauled in eight passes for 58 yards and Sean Whyte booted three field goals for Edmonton, which has not won a Labour Day Classic since 2011.
Rene Paredes split the uprights from 27 yards to open the scoring and converted another field goal from 39 yards after a Royce Metchie interception as the Stampeders jumped in front 6-0. Whyte responded with a pair of 44-yard field goals for the Eskimos to close within a point, but Arbuckle snuck into the end zone from a yard away with 44 seconds left in the second quarter and Calgary added a two-point conversion for a 15-6 lead at intermission.
Paredes extended the advantage with a 36-yard field goal and Edmonton settled for a 19-yard boot from Whyte after driving inside the Stampeders' 5 before Harris' second-down attempt was knocked down. Calgary pushed the lead to 16 when Mitchell connected with Begelton for a 24-yard scoring strike on the first play of the final quarter and the Stampeders stopped the Eskimos on downs inside the 10-yard line with just under three minutes left to seal it.
