Creighton 68, Wichita State 65: Jahenns Manigat scored a season-high 16 points – including an acrobatic layup with 11.5 seconds remaining – as the Bluejays held off a late charge by the Shockers to win the Missouri Valley Conference tournament in St. Louis.

Ethan Wragge added 15 points, Doug McDermott chipped in 14 and Gregory Echenique tallied nine points and 11 rebounds for Creighton (27-7), which claimed its second straight MVC tournament title.

Malcolm Armstead had a career-high 28 points, matched a season high with nine rebounds and recorded four steals for Wichita State (26-8).

McDermott – the MVC Player of the Year – scored a season-high 41 points against the Shockers on March 2, but struggled out of the gate in this contest while Armstead and Wragge carried the bulk of the offense with 18 and 12 first-half points, respectively. Wragge staked Creighton to an early 19-7 advantage with three 3-pointers, but the Bluejays’ 34.5 percent first-half shooting allowed the Shockers to rally as Armstead scored 16 points after the early surge to pull within 30-28 at the break.

McDermott and Manigat combined to score 11 of the Bluejays’ first 14 points of the second half and Creighton established a 63-50 cushion following a 3-pointer from Manigat with 5:12 remaining, but Wichita State scored on seven straight possessions – including four 3-pointers – to pull with 66-65. However, Manigat’s late score increased the lead to three and Armstead’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer hit off the front rim.
