Virginia Tech 80, Florida State 70: Erick Green scored 26 points and the host Hokies ended a nine-game losing streak with a victory over the Seminoles.
C.J. Barksdale contributed a career-high 17 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds while Robert Brown finished with 11 points for Virginia Tech (12-15, 3-11 ACC).
Okaro White had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Devon Bookert added 14 points and freshman Aaron Thomas tallied 10 points for Florida State (14-13, 6-8).
The Seminoles grabbed a six-point lead before a 13-3 run by Virginia Tech gave the Hokies a 28-24 advantage with 1:02 left in the first half. Green, the nation’s leading scorer entering Sunday at 25.2 points, scored 11 points in the opening 20 minutes.
Virginia Tech put up nine of the first 10 points of the second half to extend its lead to double figures. The Seminoles cut the deficit to four on three occasions, but Green scored five answered points and the Hokies maintained their cushion by shooting 17-for-18 from the line over the final 2:19.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Green has scored at least 22 points in the last six games and 13 of his last 14. He has 30 straight games in double figures. … Barksdale, a 6-8 sophomore forward, produced his career-high point total for the second consecutive game. … G Michael Snaer, who entered Sunday as the leading scorer for Florida State at 14.2 points, finished with eight points on 2-for-9 shooting.
