Rutgers 88, UAB 79: Myles Mack scored a game-high 23 points and was 4-for-5 from 3-point range as the host Scarlet Knights beat the Blazers.

Mack recorded five assists and five steals, Eli Carter added 20 points - making 12 of his 13 free throws - and six assists, and Dane Miller chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds for Rutgers (7-2), which shot 73.9 percent in the first half en route to a 50-33 lead at the break. The Scarlet Knights have won seven of their last eight games.

Jordan Swing led UAB (5-6) with a career-high 23 points and six rebounds while Preston Purifoy and Rod Rucker scored 20 and 14 points, respectively.

Back-to-back Miller dunks highlighted Rutgers' 18-4 game-opening run with a Jerome Seagers' layup pushed the lead to 25-9 8:54 into the game. After a Mack deep ball and three free throws increased the cushion to 36-11 3:09 later, UAB scored eight straight points and closed the half on a 22-14 run.

The Blazers cut the deficit to 74-67 on a Purifoy three-point play with 3:05 left, but Carter scored nine points down the stretch to seal the victory.

GAME NOTEBOOK: After scoring only five points in Rutgers' season-opening loss to St. Peter's, Mack has scored double-figures in each of the last eight games. ...
