Maryland 70, Georgia Southern 53: Freshman Charles Mitchell recorded career highs with 13 points and 11 rebounds as the Terrapins pulled away from the visiting Eagles in the second half.
Mitchell had six points and Alex Len added five during a 17-4 run to open the second half, which gave Maryland (4-1) a 46-30 lead. Georgia Southern pulled within nine, but got no closer the rest of the way as the Terrapins won their fourth straight.
Logan Aronhalt made all of his four 3-point attempts to score 12 points and Nick Faust had 11 points and five assists for Maryland. Len added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Shaquille Cleare contributed 10 points and five rebounds for the Terrapins, who dominated the Eagles 45-23 on the boards.
C.J. Reed led the way with 15 points, while Eric Ferguson added 13 and Tre Bussey 11 for Georgia Southern (2-3).
Georgia Southern made three 3-pointers – two by Bussey – to take an early 9-1 lead. The Terrapins battled back, led by Mitchell’s seven first-half points, to peek their head in front 29-26 at halftime despite 10 turnovers.
