North Carolina 69, North Carolina State 67: Kendall Marshall’s short bank shot with 10 seconds left broke a tie as the Tar Heels beat the Wolfpack for the 13th straight time to reach the ACC championship.
North Carolina (29-4) faces the winner of Duke-Florida State on Sunday.
After Marshall’s basket, Justin Watts stole a pass to deny NC State a chance to tie.
The Tar Heels beat the Wolfpack for the third time this season despite the absence of ACC defensive player of the year John Henson (wrist).
N.C. State (22-12) led by three at halftime and by seven early in the second half, but got in foul trouble trying to defend Tyler Zeller in the post. Star forward C.J. Leslie (22 points, 7 rebounds) fouled out with eight minutes left.
Zeller had 23 points and nine rebounds before fouling out himself.
Now the Wolfpack will have to sweat out Selection Sunday.
Game Notebook: UNC freshman James Michael McAdoo made his first start due to Henson’s injury, finishing with nine points and two rebounds. … UNC’s Harrison Barnes shot 3 for 12 with four turnovers. ... N.C. State PG Lorenzo Brown had 16 points and six assists, sparking a late surge that erased UNC's late 66-61 lead.
