LOYOLA MARYMOUNT 75, SAINT MARY’S 60: Drew Viney and Anthony Ireland combined for 33 points as the Lions held on to stun the No. 16 Gaels and snap their 16-game home winning streak.

Viney finished with 17 points and Ireland added 16 as Loyola Marymount (16-11, 10-4 WCC) improved to 7-1 on the road in conference play and ended Saint Mary’s 11-game winning streak in the series.

The Lions controlled the action for most of the game and took the lead for good when Ashley Hamilton hit a layup with 16:51 left to give them a 36-35 advantage.

Although Rob Jones ended a 6-0 run with a tip-in two minutes later, Loyola Marymount started pulling away with another seven unanswered points. After that surge, the Gaels (23-4, 12-2) would get no closer than five as the Lions closed the game with a 23-13 run.

Jones posted his 16th double-double of the season with 25 points and 15 rebounds as the Gaels have dropped two of three and face a difficult challenge on Saturday at No. 14 Murray State.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Saint Mary’s 29 first-half points marked only the fifth time this season the team scored less than 30 points before the break.… The Lions secured their third win over a Top 25 team this season. ... The Gaels, who entered the game as the top-shooting and second-highest scoring team in the conference, shot only 38.6 percent and was held to 60 points or less for just the sixth time this season.
