SOUTH FLORIDA 55, PROVIDENCE 48: Shaun Noriega sat out the first half, before coming off the bench to drain consecutive 3-pointers and start a decisive 14-2 run as visiting South Florida came from behind to hand Providence its third straight loss.
LaDontae Henton answered Noriega’s second 3-pointer to give Providence a 48-47 lead with 1:20 remaining, but South Florida (15-10, 8-4 Big East) scored the game’s final eight points at the free-throw line.
Victor Rudd had 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bulls, who earned their third win away from home.
Vincent Council led Providence (13-13, 2-11) with 16 points. The Friars have lost seven of eight.
South Florida trailed by as many as five points in the opening 20 minutes, but scored the final seven points for a 24-21 halftime lead. Jawanza Poland had five of his seven first-half points during that late run for the Bulls.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Providence was 8 for 31 from the field in the first half (25.8 percent). … South Florida won the first game between the two teams 81-78 in Tampa on Jan. 29. …Providence coach Ed Cooley was assessed a technical with 18.4 seconds left.
