Robbie
Hummel connected on an off balanced 15-foot jumper with 8.1 seconds
remaining to give Purdue a 58-56 win over
Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. The win snapped
a two-game losing streak for the Boilermakers (15-7, 5-4 Big Ten), who
won their third straight the Wildcats (12-8, 2-6 Big Ten).
Northwestern has lost three straight since upsetting then No. 7 Michigan
State two weeks ago.
Hummel, who scored nine of his 11 points in the second half, got past a defender and while falling away, nailed the game-winner.
John Shurna, the Big Ten's leading scorer, had a potential game-winning
3-point shot from 30-feet miss badly. Shurna scored 15 points for the
Wildcats while Drew Crawford led the way with a game-high 23.
Purdue was led by Terone Johnson, who came off
the bench to score 14. D.J. Byrd, making his first start of the season,
added 12.
