No. 18 Marquette won its fifth straight Big East game for the first time in nearly two years, stifling visiting South Florida 67-47 on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles (17-4, 6-2 Big East) gave coach Buzz Williams his 100th career win by forcing 20 turnovers and holding the Bulls to 35.6 percent shooting.
Senior guard Darius Johnson-Odom led Marquette with 17 points, senior forward Jae Crowder added 15, and sophomore forward Davante Gardner had 15 points and seven rebounds.
South Florida (12-9, 5-3 Big East) saw its three-game win streak snapped despite 19 points and 10 rebounds from reserve forward Toarlyn Fitzpatrick.
The Bulls came in allowing a league-low 57.7 points, and kept the game at a slower pace than Marquette likes. But the Bulls’ erratic offense did them in.
Marquette pulled away late in the first half and led 33-21 at the break. The Golden Eagles improved to 17-3 all-time against South Florida.
