Isaiah Canaan scored a game-high 21 points as No. 10 Murray State remained the only unbeaten team in Division I with a 82-65 victory over host SIU Edwardsville on Saturday.
An hour before the start, No. 1 Syracuse lost its first game of the season, 67-58 at Notre Dame.
Murray State (20-0, 8-0 Ohio Valley) wasted little time taking control, using a 16-0 run over a 3:09 stretch early to take a 26-12 lead and the Racers never looked back against conference newcomer SIUE (5-12, 3-5).
Donte Poole, who scored all 14 of his points in the first half, capped the outburst with a pair of 3-pointers and the Racers were never threatened as they reached the 20-win mark for the 25th time in school history.
Jewuan Long added a career-high 17 points for Murray State and Ed Daniel chipped in 10. Canaan, who scored 14 points as Murray State enjoyed a 49-35 halftime lead, finished 4 of 8 from 3-point range as the Racers hit eight from beyond the arc.
The Cougars, who dropped their fourth straight, were led by Mark Yelovich's double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Kris Davis scored 15 points for SIUE and Derian Shaffer had the first double-double of his career with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
