Elias Harris scored a game-high 19 points, including the clinching layup with 8.1 seconds remaining, as No. 23 Gonzaga defeated Loyola Marymount 62-58 on Saturday.
Harris, who had two dunks in a 17-4 spurt to open the second half, made 9 of 17 from the field and added four rebounds. His clutch basket in the waning seconds enabled the Bulldogs to hold off a determined Loyola comeback bid and hold onto second place in the West Coast Conference.
Gonzaga (14-3, 4-1 WCC) also got 16 points and four rebounds from Gary Bell Jr. and eight points and six rebounds from Robert Sacre.
Loyola (10-8, 3-2) was led by Ashley Hamilton with 16 points and four rebounds and LaRon Armstead with 14 points.
Gonzaga trailed 34-32 at the half but scored the first nine points of the second period. The Zags didn’t allow Loyola to score its first second-half point until 13:55 left. Gonzaga led 49-38, but allow Loyola to scored 15 of the next 20 and get back in the game.
Gonzaga continued its dominance of the series, winning for the fourth straight time. The Bulldogs have won 33 of the last 36 contests and lead the series 55-23.
