Tim Hardaway Jr. posted a double-double and No. 13 Michigan beat 19th-ranked Wisconsin at its own game, riding a strong defensive effort to a 59-41 victory in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Wolverines (13-3, 3-1 Big Ten) held the Badgers scoreless for a span of more than seven minutes midway through the game, scoring nine consecutive points during that stretch to build a 32-19 advantage before Mike Bruesewitz ended the drought for Wisconsin (12-5, 1-3) by hitting a 3-pointer with 15:02 remaining.
The Badgers came into the game leading the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 47.2 points, but it was Michigan putting on the defensive clinic Sunday. Wisconsin missed its first seven shots of the second half and finished the day shooting just 31 percent (16-for-51) from the field and going 2-for-5 from the foul line.
Hardaway finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolverines, who had dropped the last 10 meetings between the two schools. Trey Burke added 14 points in the win.
Jordan Taylor led the way with 12 points and three steals for the Badgers, who have lost three consecutive games for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
