Brock Motum scored 26 points and DaVonte Lacy added 18 as Washington State defeated Oregon State 81-76 on Saturday in Spokane, Wash.
Motum made 10-of-15 field-goal attempts and had three 3-point baskets as the Cougars (9-5, 1-1 Pac-12) won for the seventh time in eight games.
Jared Cunningham scored 23 points, Ahmad Starks had 18 points and Joe Burton added 14 for Oregon State (10-4, 0-2), which has lost nine of its last 11 against Washington State.
The Beavers trailed by three when Starks and Cunningham each missed game-tying 3-point attempts on one possession in the final half-minute before Marcus Capers hit two free throws with 13 seconds left to seal it for the Cougars.
Washington State led 65-54 with 5:29 left after Motum’s tip-in basket before Starks hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Cunningham hit two free throws to get the Beavers within three with 4:05 remaining.
The Cougars led by as many as nine points in the first half but Oregon State rallied to tie the score at 35 on a 3-pointer by Starks with 1:19 to play. Washington State scored the final five points for a 40-35 halftime lead.
