Kenny Kadji registered a team-high 18 points, Durant Scott added 14 and visiting Miami (FL) used a barrage of 3-pointers to pull away from Charlotte for a 76-61 victory Thursday.
The Hurricanes (7-4) put together a 15-3 run in the second half by making five straight 3-pointers – two each by Kadji and Rion Brown (11 points) – to take a 52-39 lead. Miami made eight 3-pointers in all to snap Charlotte’s five-game win streak.
Miami was without leading scorer Malcolm Grant, who left the team Thursday to attend to an urgent family matter. Senior DeQuan Jones played his first game of the season for the Hurricanes and contributed seven points. Jones sat out the first 10 games due to an investigation into recruiting violations, but was re-instated this week.
The Hurricanes finished 27-for-50 from the field.
Chris Braswell had 12 points to lead Charlotte (7-3), but the 49ers’ leading scorer was 3-for-15 from the field.
Miami 50 percent from the field and held Charlotte to 7-of-26 (26.9) in the first half. Shane Larkin led the way for Miami with eight points and Braswell, who made four free throws, missed all five of his shots from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
