Jeffery Taylor scored 29 points - one short of tying his career high - as Vanderbilt crushed visiting Longwood 99-71 on Monday.

The Commodores (7-4) were coming off a home loss to Indiana State in which they coughed up an eight-point lead and scored only two points over the final 6:32. The struggles did not carry over into Monday.

Vanderbilt hit eight of its first 12 field goal attempts, including five consecutive 3-pointers within the first seven minutes and led 21-10 after Kedren Johnson hit the last of the five long balls at the 13:06 mark.

Vanderbilt stretched its lead to 52-33 at halftime as Taylor had a late scoring flourish, collecting nine of his 18 first-half points in the final 3:21.

John Jenkins, the SEC’s leading scorer who added 19 points and Lance Goulbourne, who contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds, had consecutive field goals with 5:16 left that gave the Commodores a 91-64 cushion.

Vanderbilt hit 50.7 percent of its field goal attempts (36-of-71), including 12-of-29 on 3-pointers and scored the most points since defeating Mercer 99-59 in 2009.

Tristan Carey, who hit 6-of-8 3-pointers, and Antwan Carter, each scored 20 points for the Lancers (4-7), who came in as the fifth-worst team in the country in scoring defense.
