Dundrecous Nelson came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points and Nick Williams added 12 as Ole Miss defeated visiting Louisiana-Lafayette 66-54 on Wednesday.
The win was the sixth straight for the Rebels, who haven’t lost since a 96-66 setback to Marquette on Nov. 20. It also helped them improve to 9-1 for the third time since the 2007-08 season.
Ole Miss led 34-27 at halftime and extended the lead to as many as 19 after a Nelson 3-pointer with 7:09 left. Nelson had 10 of his points in the second half as the Rebels shot 43.6 percent from the field and improved to 61-22 all-time against Sun Belt opponents.
Louisiana-Lafayette (5-7), which fell to 0-5 against SEC teams over the last three years, was led by Darshawn McClellan’s 12 points and nine rebounds. Bryant Mbamalu finished with 12 and Josh Brown added 11 for the Ragin’ Cajuns, who shot only 38 percent and committed 18 turnovers.
The Ragin’ Cajuns fell to 0-5 on the road this year and lost for the fourth time in their last six games.
Murphy Holloway had a game-high 10 rebounds for the Rebels, who improved to 5-0 at home and won their sixth game by double figures.
