Toarlyn Fitzpatrick had a career-high 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds as South Florida shook off a sloppy start to pull away from visiting Florida A&M for an 83-59 victory on Sunday.
Fitzpatrick made 11 of 16 from the field and 3 of 4 from 3-point range for the Bulls (6-4), who snapped a two-game slide. Hugh Robertson added nine points and a career-high 21 rebounds.
Shaun Noriega added 12 points and Victor Rudd had 11 for the Bulls, who improved to 6-0 at home. Freshman point guard Anthony Collins added 10 points – all in the first half – and eight assists for USF.
Reggie Lewis registered 17 points and Avery Moore 14 to lead Florida A&M (2-8).
Florida A&M, coming in off two straight wins, led by as many as four in the first half. The Rattlers maintained a 29-28 advantage before USF scored the last 11 points to take a 39-29 halftime lead.
Fitzpatrick had 14 points in the first half for the Bulls, going 6-of-7 from the field. USF started the second half with a 9-2 run and the Rattlers got no closer than 14 the rest of the way.
Ron Anderson Jr., averaging 10 points for the Bulls, played sparingly due to sickness.
