Dee Bost put in a well-rounded effort and Arnett Moultrie recorded his fourth double-double of the season as No. 24 Mississippi State defeated West Virginia 75-62 on Saturday for its seventh straight victory.
Bost scored 17 points, a performance punctuated by a steal and slam dunk with 5:28 remaining. That play staked the Bulldogs (8-1) to a 60-54 lead.
At the time, it marked Mississippi State’s largest lead of the second half, but the Bulldogs pulled away down the stretch. Bost also had five rebounds and a season-high seven assists.
Moultrie, who came into the game as the leading rebounder in the SEC, totaled 21 points and 13 boards - both team highs.
Kevin Jones, West Virginia’s leading scorer and rebounder, struggled through an 6-for-17 night shooting the ball but still matched Deniz Kilicli for scoring honors with 14 points apiece for the Mountaineers (4-2).
Kilicli scored nine straight for West Virginia during a stretch that bridged the halftime break.
West Virginia went 14-for-20 at the line (70 percent), well above its sub-60 percent season average heading into the game.
