Tu Holloway scored 24 points and No. 11 Xavier rallied from a nine-point second-half deficit and held No. 19 Vanderbilt scoreless for nearly seven minutes in an 82-70 overtime victory Monday.
Mark Lyons added 19 points for the visiting Musketeers (5-0), who trailed 51-42 with 13 minutes to go but tied the game at 66 on Lyons’ spinning layup with eight seconds remaining in regulation.
Vanderbilt did not score for a 6:42 stretch, from 4:03 left in regulation until the 2:21 mark of overtime. Xavier scored the first eight points of overtime, with back-to-back Holloway 3-pointers giving the Musketeers a 74-66 lead with 2:41 to go.
Leading 66-64 late in regulation, Vanderbilt missed a chance to make it a two-possession game when John Jenkins missed a short jumper in the lane with 16 seconds left.
Jenkins scored 20 points as Vanderbilt saw its four-game winning streak snapped. Lance Goulbourne and Jeffery Taylor each scored 18 points.
Former Vanderbilt forward Andre Walker, a graduate student playing for the Musketeers, had a game-high 14 rebounds as Xavier dominated the boards 48-30.
