Quincy Miller had 17 points and 11 rebounds, leading No. 10
Baylor to a 75-65 win over Texas-Arlington on Wednesday night in Waco, Texas.
It was the fourth time in the first five games that Miller,
a freshman forward, has led the Bears (5-0) in scoring, as he bounced back from
a five-point performance last night.
Texas-Arlington (3-1) trailed 38-29 halftime and cut the
lead to six points early in the second, but the Mavericks couldn’t overcome 17
turnovers.
The Mavericks used a frenetic pressure defense to win their
first three games by forcing 21.3 turnovers per game, and they forced 23
against Baylor, but they were dominated inside and at the free throw line.
Quincy Acy had 10 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks for the
Bears, who made 23 free throws compared to Texas-Arlington’s 12. Miller shot
11-of-12 from the stripe.
LaMarcus Reed scored 21 points to lead the Mavericks, who
won their first three games by an average of 25 points.
The two teams traded buckets for the first few minutes of
the second half until the Bears stretched their lead to 16 when Miller snagged
an offensive rebound and then found Acy for a dunk to go up 55-39.
This was the last game Baylor was without preseason Big 12
Player of the Year Perry Jones III, who has been serving a suspension for
accepting improper benefits before he got to the school. Jones will be eligible
to play Tuesday against Prairie View A&M.
