Devin Brown went off for 32 points as host Holy Cross earned a rare victory over in-state rival Boston College 86-64 on Friday.

R.J. Evans scored 14 points and Dave Dudzinski added 10 for the Crusaders (1-2), who snapped a four-game slide in the series and won for only the second time in the last 18 meetings.

The Eagles (1-1), who are replacing 10 players from last season’s squad, looked very much like an inexperienced bunch against Holy Cross by playing spotty defense and shooting poorly.

The Crusaders built a 38-30 lead at the break and continued to pull away in the second, never letting Boston College get closer than 45-40 with 17:21 remaining.

The Eagles went without a field goal over a four minutes stretch in the middle of the second, allowing Holy Cross to turn an 11-point edge into a 71-51 cushion.

Brown scored 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting in the second half.

Freshman Jordan Daniels was the best of the newcomers for Boston College with 15 points.
