Jeffery Taylor had 21 points and 12 rebounds as Vanderbilt, playing without leading scorer John Jenkins, held off LSU 62-50 Thursday in the first round of the SEC Tournament in Atlanta.
Jenkins, a sophomore guard who leads the SEC at 19.4 points per game, missed the game with a left foot injury he tweaked in Saturday’s loss to Florida.
Jenkins is expected back when the Commodores (22-9) face Mississippi State (17-13) in Friday’s quarterfinals.
The Tigers (11-21), who shot 30.5 percent, got 13 points from Andre Stringer and 12 from Storm Warren.
Festus Ezeli and Brad Tinsley chipped in 10 points each, and Lance Goulbourne had 13 rebounds for the Commodores, who had lost three of four entering the tournament.
