Miami (14-9, 3-6 ACC) rallied from a five-point deficit in the final 37 seconds of regulation to force the extra session. The Hurricanes scored the first five points in overtime en route to knocking off Virginia (12-11, 3-6 ACC) and winning their second straight game by two points.
Miami’s Rion Brown hit a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left in regulation to cut the deficit to 55-53; then made all three free throws to tie the game at 56-56 after being fouled with 13 seconds left to force overtime.
Virginia led almost the entire game, but missed key free throws, two in the final minute of regulation and three more in overtime to drop another ACC game in which it led in the second half. The Cavs were led by Mustapha Farrakhan’s 20 points and Joe Harris’ 18.
The Cavaliers were just 9 of 21 from the free throw line, while Miami converted 17 of 22.
