Darius Morris led the way with 20 points and 10 assists as Michigan came from behind to take out Penn State, 76-69, on Sunday. Zach Novak added 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting for the Wolverines (11-3, 1-1 Big Ten), who shot 57 percent from the floor to pick up their first conference victory.
Both teams shot better than 50 percent in the first half but Michigan could not find a way to slow down Talor Battle and David Jackson, who each hit a pair of 3-pointers and combined for 27 points as Penn State took a 36-31 lead into the break.
The Wolverines battled back in the second half, opening with a 14-5 run to grab the lead. Novak scored eight points during the spurt. The Nittany Lions (8-5, 1-1) fought back to tie it on Jeff Brooks’ free throw with 10:24 left and it went back and forth until Matt Vogrich’s three-point play with 3:23 on the clock put Michigan on top for good.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Wolverines, who travel to No. 24 Wisconsin on Wednesday before returning home to face No. 3 Kansas and No. Ohio State in back-to-back games.
