Arsalan Kazemi had 19 points and 17 rebounds as Rice snapped a two-game losing streak with a 74-68 victory over LSU on Wednesday.
Kazemi, the only player in Conference USA averaging a double-double, was 4 of 5 from the field and 11 of 17 from the free throw line.
Tamir Jackson added 16 points for the Owls (7-6), who led comfortably late in the second half before LSU staged a furious rally.
Freshman Andre Stringer’s fourth 3-pointer of the game pulled the Tigers to within 68-65 with 30 seconds left before Connor Frizzlle (13 points) hit a pair of free throws. Matt Derenbecker’s jumper then cut the lead to 70-67 with 19 seconds left, but Frizzelle hit two more free throws to seal it.
Stringer finished with 19 points and Derenbecker had 17 for LSU (8-6), which has lost four of five.
