Glen Rice Jr. scored 19 points while Brian Oliver added 15, leading Georgia Tech to a 71-61 win over UTEP on Friday night.
The game was part of the fourth annual Legends Classic at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Georgia Tech (4-1) advances to face the Syracuse-Michigan winner in Saturday’s championship.
UTEP (3-2) led 37-31 at halftime, but Georgia Tech moved ahead in the second half and steadily increased the lead.
Randy Culpepper led UTEP with 13 points. Julyan Stone scored 12 points while Christian Polk added 10. Iman Shumpert scored 13 points for Georgia Tech.
Free throw shooting was the difference in the game. The Yellow Jackets made 18 of 23 at the line while the Miners were only 8 of 17.
Georgia Tech won despite shooting poorly from the field. The Yellow Jackets made only 29 of 85 shots. UTEP was 24 of 50 from the field.
