New coach, same result for Boston College.
Joe Trapani scored 20 points and Boston College got the Steve Donohue era off to a flying start with a 79-49 victory over St. Francis of New York on Friday night.
Boston College (1-0) won last season’s matchup with St. Francis 72-44 but by the end of the season the Eagles had stumbled, posting a 15-16 record which spelled the end of Al Skinner’s time on Chestnut Hill.
Enter Donohue, who led Cornell to the Sweet 16 a year ago, to turn things around.
The Eagles made their new coach look good right from the start, opening the game with a 24-2 run over the first 13 minutes.
Corey Raji scored 13 of his 17 points in the spurt while the Terriers shot 1-of-14 from the field, including 0-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Boston College led 38-15 at the half and opened the second half much like the first, going on a 10-2 run to take a 48-17 lead.
Trapani was 6-of-9 from the field and 7-of-9 from the line for Boston College, which also got a 17-point performance from Reggie Jackson.
Ricky Cadell was 5-of-8 from the field and made three 3-pointers to finish with 14 points for St. Francis (0-1).
