Carlos Santana homered among his three extra-base hits and drove in five runs as the visiting Cleveland Indians posted a 14-9 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.

Santana legged out an RBI triple to open the scoring in the first inning, launched a solo homer in fourth and had a bases-clearing double in the seventh. He fell short in his bid to become the ninth Cleveland player to hit for the cycle after striking out in the ninth inning.

Greg Allen ripped a two-run triple, Jose Ramirez belted a two-run double and Kevin Plawecki also drove in a pair as the Indians benefited from seven different players recording multi-hit performances in the 18-hit onslaught.

Andrew Benintendi and Xander Bogaerts both launched two-run homers while Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley Jr. each added solo shots for the Red Sox, who have lost four of their last six. Christian Vazquez and Brock Holt each had an RBI double, but Boston's attempt at a rally fell short as Brad Hand retired the two batters he faced for his 15th save.

Jake Bauers' RBI single to right field snapped a tie at 3 in the third inning before Allen's triple into right field plated a pair.

Santana pushed the advantage to 7-3 by depositing a first-pitch sinker from Ryan Weber (1-1) over the wall in left field.

The Red Sox answered with a two-out rally in the fourth, as Bradley belted a first-pitch fastball from Shane Bieber (4-2) into the Green Monster seats before Benintendi launched a two-run shot into the bullpen to trim Cleveland's lead to 7-6.

Plawecki ripped a two-out RBI double off the wall in left-center field in the fifth inning to push the Indians' advantage to 8-6 before Ramirez doubled that cushion with a ground-rule double in the sixth.

Cleveland wasn't done, as Santana followed Francisco Lindor's RBI single with a bases-clearing double to push its lead to 14-6.

Bieber benefited from the offensive explosion to post just his second victory in his last eight turns despite allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings.

After going without a triple in its first 54 games, Cleveland hit the first of three on the night -- with two by Allen -- as Santana's shot to the triangle in deep center field plated rookie Oscar Mercado to open the scoring in the first inning. Santana scored on a wild pitch from Weber to double the advantage.
