Luis Severino scattered three hits in eight outstanding innings as the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

Severino (10-2) joined Cleveland's Corey Kluber and Washington's Max Scherzer as a 10-game winner this season. He also improved to 9-0 in his last 14 home starts, including the postseason.

Severino reached 100 mph once while throwing 23 of his 102 pitches 99 mph or higher. Overall, he threw 71 pitches for strikes and six strikeouts occurred on pitches clocked at 99 mph.

The right-hander struck out nine and walked two. He also was aided by two double plays along with catcher Gary Sanchez throwing out Jake Bauers trying to steal second base in the first inning.

Severino even had a light moment in the fifth when he called off Sanchez and caught a foul pop up by Carlos Gomez in front of the plate.

Giancarlo Stanton and Sanchez hit back-to-back homers in the fifth inning for the Yankees, who won for the 13th time in 16 games.

Rookie Gleyber Torres hit an RBI double and Didi Gregorius added an RBI single as the Yankees also improved to 5-0 against Tampa Bay this season.

Tampa Bay used a reliever to start the game as Ryne Stanek allowed a hit while throwing 21 pitches to five hitters in 1 1/3 innings. Ryan Yarbrough (5-3) allowed four runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings while throwing 97 pitches.

Third baseman Matt Duffy hit a homer in the ninth off Chasen Shreve. After Bauers tripled, Aroldis Chapman recorded his 20th save by striking out Joey Wendle.

The Rays fell to 4-12 in their last 16 games and dropped their ninth straight road game. Tampa Bay also dropped to 2-13 in its last 15 games at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the second when Torres' double deflected off Duffy's glove and went down the left field line.

An inning later, Aaron Judge roped a double off the center field wall over Mallex Smith's head and scored when Gregorius slapped a single to left.

Stanton made it 3-0 by getting enough of Yarbrough's 2-2 changeup and parking it in the left field seats for his 16th homer. Four pitches later, Sanchez deposited a 1-2 fastball into the netting above Monument Park in center field.

It was Sanchez's 13th homer but first since May 19.
