Pinch hitter Brandon Guyer smashed a three-run homer to highlight a four-run eighth, Francisco Lindor homered twice and drove in three runs and the Cleveland Indians overpowered the host Detroit Tigers 8-3 on Friday.

Yonder Alonso also homered and drove in two runs for Cleveland, which has won 11 of 14 meetings with Detroit this season. Cody Allen (3-4) pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the victory.

Neither starter figured in the decision. Cleveland's Carlos Carrasco gave up three runs (one earned) on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings while striking out eight. Detroit's Mike Fiers allowed three runs on five hits in six innings.

Victor Martinez homered for Detroit. Losing pitcher Joe Jimenez (4-2) was charged with three runs while getting only one out.

A bad throw by Alonso at first base on Victor Reyes' grounder led to Detroit's two unearned runs in the third. Reyes stole second and advanced to third on a grounder. Nicholas Castellanos then smoked a two-out double off the left field wall for the game's first run. Niko Goodrum dropped a ground-rule double down the left field line to bring in Castellanos.

Goodrum was thrown out at home after Martinez's infield single.

Lindor's first homer tied it in the fifth. Yan Gomes led off with a single and scored when Lindor launched a Fiers fastball over the wall in right-center.

Alonso's one-out shot in the sixth, his 17th of the season, put the Indians on top.

Martinez's sixth homer, which just cleared the right field wall, tied it again at 3-all in the bottom of the frame.

The Indians took advantage of Detroit's bullpen in the eighth. Michael Brantley singled and Jose Ramirez walked. Following a strikeout, Alonso drilled an opposite-field single to knock in Brantley.

That ended Jimenez's stint, but Guyer greeted Daniel Stumpf with a blast to left field, giving the Indians a 7-3 lead.

Lindor's 27th homer of the season came off Victor Alcantara in the ninth.
