Freddie Freeman and Andy Pages hit home runs in the first inning, Mookie Betts delivered a go-ahead blast in the eighth and the Los Angeles Dodgers finished off a three-game sweep of the visiting San Diego Padres with a 5-4 victory Sunday.

Tyler Glasnow gave up two runs over five innings and Alex Vesia (3-2) recorded the last four outs as the Dodgers, who entered the series one game behind the Padres in the National League West, opened a two-game lead. The teams resume their rivalry Friday with a three-game series at San Diego.

Ramon Laureano homered for the Padres, who had won 14 of 17 games before the series began. Luis Arraez had three hits for San Diego, which dropped to 2-8 against Los Angeles this season. Right-hander Yu Darvish gave up four runs on three hits and two walks in four innings against his former club.

Shohei Ohtani singled and Betts walked to open the game for the Dodgers. Freeman hit a three-run home run, his 15th of the season. With two outs in the first, Andy Pages hit a solo homer to left-center for a 4-0 lead.

The Padres chipped away with an RBI double from Fernando Tatis Jr. in the third inning and Laureano's home run in the fifth to draw within 4-2. It was Laureano's fourth in 15 games since he was acquired from the Baltimore Orioles at the trade deadline.

Glasnow, who allowed six hits and one walk while fanning eight, turned it over to the bullpen in the sixth. That's when San Diego pulled within 4-3 on an RBI double from Ryan O'Hearn, who also was acquired from the Orioles at the deadline. The Padres tied it 4-4 in the eighth on Jose Iglesias' RBI groundout.

Minutes later, the Dodgers took the lead for good when Betts hit a home run off right-hander Robert Suarez (4-5) to lead off the bottom of the eighth.

For Betts, who was in a prolonged slump at the start of the month, it was just his second home run over his past 32 games and 13th of the season.
