Luke Voit's two-run home run in the seventh inning helped lead the New York Yankees to a 7-3 victory over the host Kansas City Royals Saturday in the first game of a day-night double-header. The Yankees had three two-run hits in the game.

The second game on the Saturday slate is a makeup of Friday night's postponement and is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET.

With the win, the Yankees clinched the season series over the Royals for the fifth straight season. Since 2000, the Yankees have won 16 season series, with three splits and just one Royals series win (2014). The Yankees are 99-43 in the 2000s against Kansas City.

J.A. Happ (4-3) picked up the win after giving up three runs on four hits in six innings. Relying mostly on his fastball, Happ struck out 10 Royals.

Scott Barlow (1-1) took the loss. He gave up four runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings. Starter Jakob Junis surrendered three runs over six innings.

The Yankees scored two runs in the first off Junis. After giving up a walk to Aaron Hicks and a hit to Voit, Junis struck out the next two batters. But Clint Frazier doubled down the right-field line to score both runners. Junis' ERA in the first inning this season is now 9.00 (11 earned runs in 11 innings).

The Yankees added a run in the sixth. Brett Gardner tripled to right field, then scored on a flyout to right field by Gio Urshela.

Happ allowed just one baserunner in his first five innings, but the Royals finally got to him in the sixth. Billy Hamilton beat out a one-out infield single, followed by a sharp single to left by Nicky Lopez. With the wind blowing out to left, Whit Merrifield tied the score with a 413-foot home run to left.

The lead didn't last long as Voit blasted his 470-foot home run that almost cleared the seats in left field, putting the Yankees ahead 5-3 in the seventh.

Thairo Estrada's two-run double in the eighth inning stretched the lead to 7-3.
