Felix Hernandez allowed three hits over 7 2/3 innings and Franklin Gutierrez delivered a two-run single as visiting Seattle won its seventh straight Opening Day game.

Hernandez (1-0) struck out eight and walked one while dominating the Athletics, who have lost nine straight openers. Stephen Pryor recorded the final out of the eighth and Tom Wilhelmsen worked the ninth for the save.

Oakland starter Brett Anderson (0-1) pitched well and gave up two runs and four hits in six innings. Anderson struck out six and walked four.

Dustin Ackley walked with one out in the Seattle fifth and moved to third on a single by Brendan Ryan with Ryan taking second on the throw to third. Gutierrez followed with a single to center.

Seth Smith went 2-for-3 off Hernandez, including a two-out double to right in the eighth. Eric Sogard followed with a walk on Hernandez’s 109th pitch and Charlie Furbush walked Coco Crisp before Pryor retired Derek Norris on a grounder to second.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hernandez is the third pitcher to make six Opening Day starts prior to turning 27. Bert Blyleven and Dwight Gooden are the others. … John Jaso had a one-out double in the fourth for Oakland’s first hit off Hernandez. … Athletics pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts and Seattle 3B Kyle Seager fanned three times.
