Astros 3, Rockies 2: Brian Bogusevic’s two-out RBI single in the eighth gave host Houston a come-from-behind victory against the Rockies as the Astros took two of three in the series.
Leading 2-1, Colorado’s Rex Brothers (0-1) recorded two quick outs in the eighth before giving up a pair of singles to Jose Altuve and J.D. Martinez. Carlos Lee hit what appeared to be an inning-ending ground ball to third, but a throwing error by Jordan Pacheco allowed Altuve to tie the game.
Bogusevic followed with the go-ahead single to right before Brett Myers worked the ninth to record his first save of the year.
Wilton Lopez (1-0) recorded a pair of outs in the eighth to earn the win.
Right-hander Bud Norris gave up four hits and three walks and struck out eight in seven innings for the Astros, who had an MLB-worst 56-106 record in 2011. However, he was outdueled by Juan Nicasio, who allowed just one run in seven innings in his first start since being hit by a line drive last August.
Wilin Rosario’s fourth-inning home run gave Houston a 2-0 lead, but the Astros pulled within 2-1 in the bottom half on Lee’s RBI double. The Astros failed to reach second base until the eighth, when they did all their damage with two outs.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Prior to Rosario’s home run, Astros starters had gone 17 straight innings without allowing an earned run. … Kyle Parker, the Rockies’ first-round pick in 2010, landed on the minor league disabled list after after being hit in the hand by a pitch Saturday. … Colorado will begin a nine-game homestand against San Francisco on Monday. … All three Astros starters turned in a quality start in the series. … Attendance was 14,195.
