Cubs 5, Astros 4: Bryan LaHair homered and delivered a two-out, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning as Chicago averted a sweep and won its regular-season finale.

LaHair drilled the first pitch he saw from Hector Ambriz (1-1) into right field to plate Darwin Barney with the winning run as the Cubs won for only the second time in 11 games in a matchup between teams with a combined 208 losses.

Carlos Marmol (3-3) earned the victory with one inning of scoreless relief, sending Houston to a franchise-record 107th defeat in its final game as a member of the National League.

Justin Maxwell, mired in a 3-for-29 slump entering the game, clubbed a three-run tying home run in the eighth inning for the Astros, who were seeking their first three-game sweep since taking three from the Cubs on May 21-23.

The Cubs built a 4-1 lead on LaHair's solo homer in the second inning, a bases-loaded walk to Anthony Recker and a two-run single by starter Travis Wood in the fourth. Wood allowed one run on three hits in 6 1/3 innings. Astros starter Edgar Gonzalez gave up four runs in 3 1/3 innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Maxwell's blast - his team high 18th - gave the Astros at least one homer in a season-high seven consecutive games. ... Cubs RHP Shawn Camp, who served up Maxwell's homer, made his 80th appearance of the season, tying Dodgers left-hander Randy Choate for the most in the NL. ... Houston had a streak of 28 straight scoreless innings until LaHair went deep to start the second inning.
