Paul hit a two-run triple and scored on Jones’ double as part of a four-run second inning against struggling Ubaldo Jimenez (0-2) as the Pirates claimed their second victory of the three-game series. Ryan Doumit scored on Ronny Cedeno’s bunt single for the inning’s first run.

The Pirates had another four-run outburst in the fifth. Pitcher Charlie Morton plated the first run with a sacrifice fly, Andrew McCutchen had a run-scoring single and Jones capped the uprising with a two-run single to center to give the Pirates an 8-2 lead.

Dexter Fowler doubled in two runs in the sixth to pull Colorado within four.

Jimenez failed to win for the fourth time this season. He gave up four runs and six hits in four innings. He struck out six but walked four and threw three wild pitches.

Morton (3-1) gave up four runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.
