Garrett Jones and Xavier Paul had two RBIs apiece and Jose Tabata drove in his first run since June 7 and was among five players with two hits as the Pirates won for just the fifth time in their last 24 interleague games.

Chris Resop (3-2) earned the victory with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

After commemorating the 40th anniversary of its 1971 World Series championship over Baltimore, Pittsburgh jumped on Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie (2-9) for three runs in the first and single runs in each of the next two innings to build a 5-0 lead.

Guthrie was charged with six runs on 11 hits in 6 1/3 innings to remain winless since May 21.

McDonald lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits.
