Kosuke Fukudome delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Chicago Cubs to a 3-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics in the rubber-game of their three-game interleague series on Thursday.

Fukudome plated Geovany Soto for the winning run after Soto led off the inning with a walk.

Chicago was down 2-1 before Xavier Nady pushed Fukudome across with a sacrifice fly in the eighth to tie the game and set up Fukudome's heroics an inning later.

Carlos Marmol (2-1) worked around a walk and got the last two outs in the ninth to record the win.

Jerry Blevins (1-1) took the loss, retiring just one batter in the ninth while allowing a run, a hit and three walks.

Both starters were effective but neither figured in the decision.

Oakland's Dallas Braden had his best outing since a perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays on May 9. He allowed one run and five hits in six innings with a walk and four strikeouts.

Randy Wells pitched well for the Cubs, yielding two runs and seven hits in seven innings. He walked one and struck out six.

Jeff Baker put the Cubs up 1-0 in the bottom of the first with a solo home run. Oakland tied the game with a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Rajai Davis before Mark Ellis put the A's up 2-1 with a solo shot of his own in the seventh.
