Brennan Boesch and Carlos Guillen hit back-to-back homers in the seventh inning to lead the Detroit Tigers past the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 on Sunday.

Max Scherzer pitched seven dominant innings to get the better of Ian Kennedy in the battle of two pitchers who were involved in a three-team offseason trade between the Tigers, Diamondbacks and New York Yankees.

Miguel Cabrera led off with the seventh inning with a single off Kennedy and the Tigers trailing 1-0. Boesch continued his strong rookie campaign by following with his 10th home run of the season to put Detroit on top 2-1. Guillen extended the advantage with his fifth blast of the campaign.

Scherzer showed his former team exactly what they gave up on, allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight to earn the win. He was a first-round draft pick of Arizona in 2006 and had a strong season with the club in 2009.

Kennedy, who was shipped from the Yankees to the Diamondbacks in that same deal, suffered the loss, yielding the three runs and six hits while striking out five in 6 2/3 frames.
